June 20, 2024 - Mondi announced the completion of its EUR 125 million investment in the Kuopio containerboard mill in Finland. The project included upgrades to the woodyard, fiber line, evaporation plant, and paper machine, which produces a high-performance fluting predominantly used in fresh fruit and vegetable trays and boxes.

Mondi Kuopio marked this milestone with an inauguration event attended by local politicians and partners, highlighting the collaborative efforts and shared vision of Mondi and its stakeholders in fostering economic growth and environmental responsibility.

According to Mondi, the upgrades will increase production capacity by 55,000 tonnes per year, enhance the quality of the product, and improve environmental performance by reducing greenhouse gas emissions per tonne of paper, while improving resource and energy efficiency.

"We are delighted to celebrate the completion of this significant investment and the opportunity it gives us to continue providing high-quality, sustainable products to our customers," said Andrew King, CEO Mondi Group. "It also demonstrates our commitment to supporting economic growth in the region and securing the long-term viability of the Kuopio mill."

Mondi is a global leader in packaging and paper, contributing to a better world by producing products that are sustainable by design.
