Aug. 26, 2024 - Domtar has named Tracy Altenbaumer the new mill manager of the company's Ashdown Mill in Ashdown, Arkansas, effective immediately.
The Ashdown Mill produces fluff pulp, which is used to produce baby diapers, adult incontinence and absorbent hygiene products.
Altenbaumer succeeds J.C. Allaire, who was recently promoted to the vice-president of manufacturing for the company.
In his new role, Altenbaumer will be responsible for leading all aspects of the Ashdown Mill's operations.
"Tracy is well-suited to continue the Ashdown Mill's journey towards building a strong performance driven culture while leading the pulp dryer restart, and other key initiatives," Allaire said.
Altenbaumer is an Ashdown native and a 1984 graduate of Ashdown High School. He attended college at Louisiana Tech University where he received a degree in chemical engineering.
"Tracy brings 37 years of experience to the role, having begun his career at the mill as a co-op in the summer of 1987," Allaire said. "During his career, he has held positions of increasing responsibility across all aspects of the mill's operations including as a process engineer; woodyard superintendent; nine years as pulp mill superintendent; 10 years as the mill's power and recovery manager; and 5 years as the mill's operations manager."
Altenbaumer is the first Ashdown native to lead the mill in its 56-year history.
The Ashdown Mill has three fiber lines with the combined capacity to produce 775,000 air dried metric tons per year of fluff pulp. The mill also has one paper machine (A62 paper machine), which was idled a few months ago. The A62 machine produced uncoated freesheet.
Domtar is a leading provider of a wide variety of sustainable fiber-based products including paper, market pulp, wood products and tissue. Domtar's principal executive office is in Fort Mill, South Carolina.
