Oct. 7, 2024 - Ence plans to invest around 80 million euros in projects that will boost the decarbonization of the Principality of Asturias, a region of northwest Spain, through its Navia biofactory in northern Spain.
Specifically, Ence will allocate 30 million euros to promote fluff pulp from Navia facility with the aim of diversifying production towards hygienic and absorbent products that until now have been imported from North America. This initiative is expected to be launched in September 2025.
Currently, the Navia plant has the production capacity to produce 685,000 tonnes per year of high-quality Elementary Chlorine Free (ECF) eucalyptus pulp.
In addition, Ence will carry out the replacement of a line of the wood park through a total investment of close to 50 million euros — improving the energy efficiency of the biofactory. This project will benefit from the energy efficiency line of the IDAE (Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy) for an amount of 13 million euros.
Ence is a leading European company in eucalyptus pulp production and the second in terms of market share. Its pulp production capacity is up to 1,200,000 tons annually.
