Oct. 21, 2024 - A local news outlet in the San Antonio region reported that International Paper will shut down its east-side San Antonio sheet feeder plant in Texas, laying off 89 employees in the coming weeks, according to state filings.

The San Antonio plant produces corrugated sheets for its customers, who are typically independent sheet plants that produce boxes.

According to an Oct. 10 notice sent to the Texas Workforce Commission, employees were notified this month of the closure and imminent layoffs, the news station said.

The layoffs will be completed by Nov. 18, the news report said.

KENS 5 News said that International Paper stated, "Recently, the company completed a strategic assessment and made the difficult decision to cease operations at the San Antonio Sheet Plant."

In addition, International Paper said it would assist employees and customers through this transition period.
