Irving Tissue Announces $600 Million Expansion Project at Macon, Georgia Tissue Mill

The $600 million investment at Irving Tissue Macon includes a third ThruAir Dry tissue machine, additional converting lines and a new fully automated warehouse.

Nov. 22, 2024 - As Irving Tissue celebrated its fifth anniversary in Macon, Georgia [on Nov. 21], company President Robert K. Irving unveiled its latest expansion project.

"I am very pleased to announce our Phase 3 expansion at Irving Tissue Macon. The $600 million (USD) investment will add another 100 jobs and include a third ThruAir Dry paper making machine, additional converting lines, and a new fully automated warehouse," Irving said.

"On top of the growth in Macon, this investment will also provide growth in our home region of the northeast — Maine and New Brunswick. Pulp will be supplied from our pulp mill in Saint John, which in turn is supplied from the six million acres we sustainably own or manage," Irving added.

Irving Tissue's plant in Macon currently employs more than 400 people. It produces ultra-premium quality household paper products including soft bath tissue and high-quality paper towel that is both strong and absorbent.

The Phase 3 expansion will increase Irving Tissue's annual ThruAir Dry capacity by 75,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 15 million cases. Total annual capacity at the Macon plant will now be 225,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 45 million cases.

Irving Tissue produces premium household store brand paper products for many of North America's top retailers, in addition to some of the top-selling tissue brands in the marketplace.
