Kemira to Expand Paper and Board Chemical Capacity in Thailand

March 21, 2025 - Kemira will make a multi-million Euro investment in multiple production line expansion of strength chemical agents for paper, board and tissue at its Wellgrow site in Thailand.

The implementation of the expansion project will begin in 2026. The new capacity is expected to be up and running in August, 2026.

"To further strengthen our leading position in APAC, we are expanding our production in Thailand for future growth," said Harri Eronen, EVP Packaging & Hygiene Solutions, at Kemira. "The Asian pulp and paper market is growing among the fastest globally, and this investment will enhance our capabilities to provide cutting edge, sustainable chemical technology to serve our customers."

Kemira explained that strength agents are used for improving the mechanical properties of all kinds of paper and board products.

In a written statement, the company said, "Kemira's new advanced strength technology enables lower water usage, improved material efficiency, and superior strength. The technology supports customers in achieving higher productivity while reducing environmental impact when replacing older technologies."

The total estimated annual capacity at the Wellgrow site, which is close to Bangkok airport and the Port of Bangkok, will be approximately 100,000 tons after the expansion. The site's operations are supported by Kemira's global and regional expert teams with strong research and innovation capabilities.
